Verse1:

Returned to Vietnam one spring day

On a 747 flew all the way

Arrived in Saigon renamed Ho Chi Minh City

The city of corruption the symbol of tyranny

Walked into customs where I was harassed

I had to give up 10 bucks in order to pass

Hey, this is crazy do you know who I am?

A US citizen with a visa in hand

Your government’s corrupt and so are you

Livin’ in a bankrupt system graft is all you do

You invaded the south stole our land

Millions of people died under your ruthless hands

I made my  way to the front of the gate

Where the beggars and the poor were clearly in the way

You could see it in their eyes how hard their life had been

The pain and the sorrow living in city of Ho Chi Minh.

You could see it from the starving lady begging under my feet

To the hopeless little children roaming homeless in the streets

Even the blind could see what is going on

When the people of the land have suffered for so long

It was obvious to me that something needs to change

But for change to occur you need to break away the  chains

What can I do? How can I  make a difference?

That’s why I wrote this song in the hopes that you all will listen

  Bridge:

I’ve learned from my lesson, I’ve learned it well

Let’s stand up for freedom, freedom will prevail

Chorus:

Everybody stand up, stand up, for Vietnam

Stand up, stand up, freedom for Vietnam(3x)

  Verse2:

Riding in my van to Cam Ranh Bay

Stopped by a VC who was blocking my way

Who was riding a white Harley in a tan uniform

Busted for going 20 in a so called school zone

Hey there ain’t no sign and there ain’t even a school

It's obvious to me you want money fool

Robbed of 5 more dollars I was on my way

Another toll booth in the city of Hue

Vietnam’s my land the place of my birth

Used to be my pride now the corruption hurts

Piece by piece they're selling our homeland

Prostituting our kids when will this all end

Talk:

"Freedom, democracy, and human rights are like

water, food, and air.  These are the basic needs

in life.  Everyone must have them.  We must

spread our wings and fly free.
